Anubis, also called Anpu, ancient Egyptian god of the dead, represented by a jackal or dog, the figure of a man with the head of a jackal or dog. In the Early Dynastic period and the Old Kingdom, he enjoyed a preeminent (though not exclusive) position as lord of the dead. Anubis possesses superhuman strength, stamina, vitality, and resistance to harm.
Bastet was the goddess of protection, pleasure, and the bringer of good health. She had the head of a cat and a slender female body. Bastet protected the home from evil spirits and disease, especially diseases associated with women and children. As with many deities in Egyptian religion, she also played a role in the afterlife as a guide and helper to the dead.
